A Year In Review

I thought with the end of the year approaching it might be nice to give a little review of how my year went.

On the non-athletic front-

I got married! This was definitely the big highlight of 2013.

We went to Las Vegas! While out there we also hit up the Grand Canyon, Sedona, and we went to the Baseball World Classic in Phoenix.

We did a west coast adventure honeymoon

We remodeled our kitchen

We remodeled our bathroom

I finished grad school and graduated with a 3.9 GPA!

On the athletic front-

Rob and I ran his first triathlon together and crossed the finish line hand in hand

We went on a weekend getaway to Cooperstown and ran a 10K while we were there. I place third in my age group

I shaved an impressive 21 minutes off my 2012 time at Iron Girl Syracuse and placed 29/105 in my age group. I hope to break into the top ten in my AG for 2014

This is actually my 2012 finish picture. I don’t think I have any photos from this year

I ran my first Olympic distance triathlon. I had a seriously slow swim and the back breaks on my bike weren’t working, but I felt amazing the whole race, missed my 10K PR by only 18 seconds, and finished strong and proud.

I ran my first half marathon. I may not have run sub-2 hours like I had hoped, but I was close, I felt great the whole race, and I’m already registered for my redemption run of this same race for 2014.

Overall 2013 was pretty awesome. I had a great year both for my athletics and my life in general. I’m pretty pumped for 2014. I’ll be running a few big races as well as looking to improve my times on a few repeat races. We’ll see what kind of things life has in store for us because right now we’re just kind of rolling with the punches.

I know I posted my goals for 2014 in my previous post, but I need to tweak those a bit. I posted a goal to run 1000 miles for the year. Well, there’s a running challenge out there called Run This Year and basically you try to run 2,014 miles for the year. That’s a bit ambitious for me, so I’ll be attempting the Run This Year in kilometers. So 2,014 kilometers comes out 1,251.4 miles. Doable, but will be a challenge for a sure.

And also, get in touch with Subaru and try to finish working out a sponsorship deal there.

So that’s it. 2013 was a good year for me and here’s to a even better 2014!!

What was the biggest non-athletic milestone you achieved in 2013?

11 Thoughts on “A Year In Review

  1. I am in awe 🙂 You had an AWESOME year!!!! Way to go with all the races and remodels! I have definitely inspired me to have a more active year in 2014! My biggest milestones were my oldest son graduation from high school and basic training in the US Army! I am officially #armymomstrong 🙂

  2. Yay for 2013! I already know all about your awesome wedding and honeymoon but congrats on all the other awesome things you did this year! 2014 is going to be awesome!

  3. You are truly amazing!

  4. Great year! just curious..how was the re-tiling? just bought a house and the master is the only bath not updated so hoping to do on our own.

    • Tiling is pretty time consuming, but really easy. We use premixed thin set to save a bit of time. Use the toothed edge of a tiling thin set spreader tool (name is escaping me right now) and scrape a decent layer onto the wall or floor. Then just press the tiles in. The sells spacers to put in between, but we just eyeballed and it came out fine. I highly suggest using the 12×12″ tile sheets instead of individual tiles. Also, if you need tiles cut, just use a marker to denote where to cut it and take them all to the hardware store and get them cut professionally (for free!). Premixed grout is great too, but buy some good quality stuff otherwise the consistency will be off. Wipe the tiles off gently with a wet sponge once you’ve grouted, give it about a day to dry, then scrub them clean. That’s really it!

  5. Wow, what a great year you had!! Love the remodels and the pic of you and your husband crossing the finish line.
Starting my blog was my biggest goal, I didn’t have any real athletic goals for the year but I did find my 6 pack again….just in time for the holidays and bye bye abs. Guess I’ll put that on this years list 😉 Happy New Year!

  6. Whoa! You are superwoman! Good luck in the new year, though, you won’t need it 🙂

  7. Wow! Congratulations on such a wonderful year. 🙂

My biggest milestone in 2013 was landing my dream job and starting my blog (one allows me the time to do the other). My biggest athletic milestone was a half-marathon PR and second place finish overall. The Seattle Marathon was a pretty big accomplishment as well. Can’t wait to start training for triathlons in 2014!

    Have a wonderful year!
