This was the first week of my two week taper. It didn’t feel too hard mentally, but it feel strange not to cram multiple workouts a day in or constantly have to revolve my days around my training schedule. For the last few months everything in my life has been carefully thought out with my ability to train around it taken into consideration. This week I just sort of went with the flow of life and got in my taper workouts where they fit in around life. It was weird, funny enough.
Monday- Rest Day
After riding the Syracuse bike course the day before I opted to take Monday as a rest day. That’s a good way to start my first taper week, right? Right.
Tuesday- 1:15 Spin
Went to spin class. It was spin class. Got there early to snag some extra time. Nothing exciting.
Wednesday- 3 Mile Run
I ran on the treadmill after work. For some reason I didn’t feel like running outside. The idea of being in the nice climate controlled gym just running to nowhere with my legs and brain on autopilot sounded good, so that’s how my mid week run went down.
Thursday- 1:05 Spin
Back to spin class. Yup.
Friday- Unplanned Rest Day
This was supposed to be an OWS, but it was storming off and on. Plus I wasn’t feeling good and the big metal clock on the built in shelves in our living room fell and hit me right in the face. I though I might have given myself a concussion, so I ordered pizza instead. Because that makes perfect sense, right?
My Garmin has this measured out at .65 miles, but I’m low balling it and guessing it was more around half a mile based on knowing the total buoy distance and my time. Either way it went well. It was super windy out so the water was pretty choppy and it got more and more choppy the longer we were out. Thankfully we had the headwind going out, so our swim back to shore we had the water pushing us along. Overall it was a good swim though, despite how much lake water I accidentally swallowed when trying to breathe.
Sunday- Unplanned Rest Day
I was supposed to run. Don’t ask me how much wine I drank the night before though. Because it was enough to make me not run the on Sunday.
My Nutrition wasn’t perfect, and I had a bit too many rest days, but physically and mentally I felt good. Now it’s race week and my head is suddenly spinning. But on the flip side I have my nutrition all set. Food is prepped, planned, precooked and ready to go. But yeah, that’s it. I have some easy workouts on my schedule for this week then Saturday morning we’re heading out to Syracuse for race weekend!
